And most surely this is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds. 192 brought down by the Faithful Spirit 193 Upon your heart, [O Muhammad] - that you may be of the warners - 194 in a clear, Arabic tongue. 195 (a revelation embodied) in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that [so many] learned men from among the children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 Had We revealed it to a man of obscure tongue 198 And he had recited it to them [perfectly], they would [still] not have been believers in it. 199 We have thus caused denial of truth to enter into the hearts of the sinners: 200 They will not believe in it to the extent that they see the painful punishment. 201 So that it will come upon them suddenly, when they perceive not. 202 Then they will say: are we to be respited? 203 Do they want to hasten Our torment? 204 Do you not see that even if We give them respite for years 205 and then Our torment will strike them, 206 what avail will their past enjoyments be to them? 207 Never have We destroyed a town without sending down messengers to warn it, 208 We have never been unjust to anyone. 209 It was not the satans who brought it down: 210 It behoveth them not, nor they can. 211 The satans are barred from listening to anything from the heavens. 212 So call not thou unto another god along with Allah, lest thou be of the doomed. 213 And admonish thy nearest kinsmen, 214 and spread the wings of thy tenderness over all of the believers who may follow thee; 215 So if they do not obey you, then say, “Indeed I am unconcerned with what you do.” 216 Put thy trust in the All-mighty, the All-compassionate 217 Who seeth thee when thou standest up (to pray) 218 And your movements among those who bow in homage to God. 219 Surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing. 220 Shall I tell you on whom the satans descend? 221 They come down on every guilty impostor. 222 on those who whisper hearsay in the ears of people; and most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, only those who go astray follow them. 224 Do you not see that they wander about in every valley 225 and that they [so often] say what they do not do [or feel]? 226 Except those who believe and do the right, and remember God a great deal, who retaliate only when they have been wronged. Yet the oppressors will now come to know through what reversals they will be overthrown! 227
