The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
