The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 “Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know.” 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
