The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
