Now, behold, this [divine writ] has indeed been bestowed from on high by the Sustainer of all the worlds: 192 which the truthful spirit has carried down 193 Upon your heart that you may be of the warners 194 in clear Arabic speech. 195 And lo! it is in the Scriptures of the men of old. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that [so many] learned men from among the children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 And had We sent it down upon a person other than an Arab, 198 So that he should have recited it to them, they would not have believed therein. 199 Thus have We inserted disbelief into the hearts of the criminals. 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment. 201 It shall come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; 202 And they will say, "May we be reprieved?" 203 Seek haste then they with our torment? 204 But hast thou ever considered [this]: If We do allow them to enjoy [this life] for some years, 205 then there comes on them that they were promised, 206 of what avail to them will be all their past enjoyments? 207 Never have We destroyed a town without sending down messengers to warn it, 208 We have never been unjust to anyone. 209 And the devils have not brought the revelation down. 210 Neither would it suit them, nor they can (produce it). 211 They have been precluded from hearing it. 212 So invoke not with Allah another ilah (god) lest you be among those who receive punishment. 213 And warn your nearest relations, 214 And spread your wing of mercy for the believers following you. 215 then, if they disobey thee, say, 'I am quit of that you do.' 216 And put thy trust on the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,- 217 Who sees you when you stand up. 218 and when you turn among those who prostrate themselves. 219 Indeed only He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They come to every sinful liar. 222 They pass on what is heard, and most of them are liars. 223 And the poets -- the perverse follow them; 224 Did you not see that they keep wandering in every valley? 225 and that they [so often] say what they do not do [or feel]? 226 Except those [poets] who believe and do righteous deeds and remember Allah often and defend [the Muslims] after they were wronged. And those who have wronged are going to know to what [kind of] return they will be returned. 227
