And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 And then they cast lots, and he was the one who lost; 141 So the fish swallowed him while he did that for which he blamed himself 142 And were he not one of those who praise. 143 he would certainly have remained in its belly till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. 145 And We made a gourd tree grow over him. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand, rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed, whrefore We let them enjoy life for a season. 148 Now ask them whether your Lord has daughters, whereas they have sons. 149 Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it? 150 It is only because of their false invention that they say, 151 "God has begotten children." They are truly liars. 152 Hath He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What ails you that you judge in such a wise? 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Or have ye an authority manifest? 156 Bring your Book, if what you say is true! 157 They have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they shall be arraigned. 158 Purity is to Allah from the matters they fabricate. 159 Except His chosen creatures who do not. 160 Wherefore verily neither ye nor that which ye worship, 161 you shall not tempt any against Him 162 Save him who will go to hell. 163 (Gabriel said to the Prophet): 'Each of us has a known place. 164 we are the rangers, 165 And indeed, we are those who exalt Allah." 166 And they surely were wont to say: 167 “If only we had the Reminder which had been granted to the people of yore 168 We would have been the chosen creatures of God." 169 but they have rejected it, [the Quran] and they shall soon learn! 170 And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers, 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 Therefore turn away from them till a time, 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment? 176 When it descends on their courtyards, how terrible that morning will be for those who were warned! 177 And leave them for a time. 178 and see, soon they shall see! 179 Hallowed be thine Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they ascribe! 180 Peace be upon the Messengers 181 And praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds. 182

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
