AND HAS the story of Abraham's honoured guests ever come within thy ken? 24 When they came to him saying, "Peace be with you," he replied to their greeting in the same manner and said to himself, "These are a strange people". 25 He went quietly to his wife and returned to his guests with a fat, roasted calf. 26 and laid it before them, saying: “Will you not eat?” 27 Then he conceived a fear of them (when they ate not). They said: "Fear not." And they gave him glad tidings of an intelligent son, having knowledge (about Allah and His religion of True Monotheism). 28 Then his wife came forward, crying and beating her brow. She said, "I am surely a barren, old woman." 29 They answered: "Thus has thy Sustainer decreed; and verily, He alone is truly wise, all-knowing!" 30 ۞ (Abraham) said: "And what, O ye Messengers, is your errand (now)?" 31 They answered: "Behold, we have been sent unto a people lost in sin, 32 to bring down upon them showers of marked lumps of clayy. 33 “That are kept marked, with your Lord, for the transgressors.” 34 We saved all the faithful in the town. 35 We found in it only one household of true believers -- 36 We left a sign in this for those who fear the grievous punishment, 37 And in Musa also was a lesson, when We sent him unto Fir'awn with authority manifest. 38 Then he turned away with his court, and said: a magician or a madman. 39 So We took him and his forces, and threw them into the sea; and his was the blame. 40 And in the 'Ad (people) (was another Sign): Behold, We sent against them the devastating Wind: 41 It left nothing of what it came upon but that it made it like disintegrated ruins. 42 And in [the story of the tribe of] Thamud, too, when they were told, "You shall enjoy your life for [but] a little while," 43 In response they rebelled against their Lord’s command, so the thunderbolt seized them whilst they were watching. 44 And neither stand up nor defend themselves. 45 And the people of Nuh We destroyed aforetime; verily they were a people transgressing. 46
