The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Last Day came near, and the moon split apart. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 And they denied and followed their own desires, whereas each matter has been decided! 3 there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings, 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 And We carried Nooh upon a ship of wooden planks and nails. 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 21 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 22
