The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there is no denying its coming 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
