A company of the former peoples 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
