The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 in an exposed parchment 3 By the House Frequented. 4 and the uplifted roof 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
