The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And children present [with him] 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he thought; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
