Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 on the Day when the earth and the mountains will be convulsed and the mountains will [crumble and] become like a sand-dune on the move! 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
