Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
