The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
