He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
