Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
