Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
