Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Join My worshipers and 29 enter My Paradise! 30
