The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the bounties [of war]. Say, "The [decision concerning] bounties is for Allah and the Messenger." So fear Allah and amend that which is between you and obey Allah and His Messenger, if you should be believers. 1 Only they are the believers whose hearts fear when Allah is remembered, and their faith advances when His verses are recited to them, and who trust only in their Lord. 2 Who establish prayer and who expend of that wherewith We have provided them. 3 Those are they who are in truth believers. For them are grades (of honour) with their Lord, and pardon, and a bountiful provision. 4 It is like when your Lord caused you to leave your home with the truth, though some of the believers disliked it. 5 Knowing it well (that a fight in which they are to take part is about to take place), they act as though they are being driven to death which they can see before their very eyes. Despite their knowledge of the truth, they still argue with you. 6 [Remember, O believers], when Allah promised you one of the two groups - that it would be yours - and you wished that the unarmed one would be yours. But Allah intended to establish the truth by His words and to eliminate the disbelievers 7 That He should establish the truth and abolish falsehood, even if the criminals disliked it. 8 Remember when you prayed to your Lord for help, He heard you and said: "I shall send a thousand angels following behind you for your aid." 9 And Allah made it not but good tidings and so that your hearts would be assured thereby. And victory is not but from Allah. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise. 10
