[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
