Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 and the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
