The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 and the day in splendour 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
