۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 Nay, but this day they make full submission. 26 And they will turn to one another and question one another. 27 saying: 'You used to come to us from the right hand' 28 They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; 29 And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 We mislead you and we ourselves had also gone astray." 32 And verily, on that Day they all will share in their common suffering. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 Indeed, when it was said to them, “There is no God except Allah”, they were haughty. 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,- 40 for them awaits a known provision, 41 Fruits; and they will be honoured. 42 in the Gardens of Bliss, 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 a goblet from a spring shall be passed round to them 45 clear, delightful to those who drink it: 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 Like sheltered eggs in a nest. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 Who used to say: 'Are you one of those who can testify to the truth? 52 That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'" 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 He will say to his friend in hell, "By God, you almost destroyed me. 56 Had I not the guidance of my Lord, I would certainly have been brought into torment". 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 except for our first death? And shall we suffer no chastisement?'” 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 for which one must strive hard. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of AzZakkum! 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 Then most surely they shall eat of it and fill (their) bellies with it. 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 for, behold, they found their forebears on a wrong way, 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 although, verily, We had sent warners unto them: 72 See how those who were warned met their end! 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
