The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount, 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 On an open record. 3 by the House inhabited 4 And the elevated canopy 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and (the fact that) their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
