Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
