The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
