They ask you about "the spirit". Say: "The spirit descends by the command of my Lord, but you have been given only a little knowledge." 85 And if We willed, We could surely do away with that which We revealed to you. Then you would not find for yourself concerning it an advocate against Us. 86 except through the special mercy of your Lord. His favours towards you has been great indeed. 87 Say thou: if the mankind and the jinn leagued together that they might produce the like of this Qur'an, they could nor produce the like thereof, though one to the other were a backer. 88 And verily We have displayed for mankind in this Qur'an all kind of similitudes, but most of mankind refuse aught save disbelief. 89 They say: 'We will not believe in you until you make a spring gush from the earth for us, 90 or, until you own a garden of palms and vines and cause rivers to gush forth with abundant water in them; 91 or you cause the heavens to fall down on us in pieces, as you have claimed; or you bring God and the angels before us face to face; 92 or till thou possessest a house of gold ornament, or till thou goest up into heaven; and we will not believe thy going up till thou bringest down on us a book that we may read. Say: 'Glory be to my Lord. Am I aught but a mortal, a Messenger?' 93
