O you apostles, eat things that are clean, and do things that are good. We are surely cognisant of what you do. 51 Verily this your order is one order, and I am your Lord, so fear Me. 52 Yet they have split their affairs between themselves into sects, each rejoicing in what it has. 53 So leave them to their ignorance for a time. 54 Do they think that by increasing their wealth and children 55 We would hasten them on in every good? Nay, they do not understand. 56 Surely those who stand in awe for fear of their Lord, 57 And those who believe in the signs of their Lord – 58 And those who do not associate (aught) with their Lord, 59 And those who give that which they give with hearts afraid because they are about to return unto their Lord, 60 it is they who vie with one another in doing good works and shall be the foremost in doing so. 61 We charge no soul with more than it can bear. We have a record which clearly shows the truth and they will not be wronged. 62 Nay, their hearts are in overwhelming ignorance with respect to it and they have besides this other deeds which they do. 63 until - after We shall have taken to task, through suffering, those from among them who [now] are lost in the pursuit of pleasures - they cry out in [belated] supplication. 64 We shall tell them, "Do not cry for help on this day; you will receive none from Us". 65 Time and again were My messages conveyed unto you, but [every time] you would turn about on your heels 66 Stiff-necked, discoursing thereof by night, reviling. 67 Have they not pondered the saying, or came there upon them that which came not upon their fathers, the ancients? 68 Or do they not recognise their Messenger, that they deny him? 69 Do they say he is mad! No, he came to them with the truth, but most of them hate the truth. 70 And were the truth to follow their desires there would have been corrupted the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is therein. Aye! We have come to them with their admonition; so it is from their admonition that they turn away. 71 Or is it that you ask them a recompense? But the recompense of your Lord is best, and He is the best of those who provide sustenance. 72 And verily thou! thou callest them unto a Path straight. 73 And verily those who believe not in the Hereafter are deviating from that Way. 74 ۞ If We had mercy on them and removed their afflictions, they would still persist in their insolence, blindly wandering. 75 Already We have seized them with the punishment, but they neither humbled themselves to their Lord, nor did they beseech Him, 76 when We opened on them a gate of severe punishment, they utterly despaired. 77
