The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 So know that Allah only is the Owner of all - the Hereafter and this world. 25
