The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
