Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
