The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 His wife and his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Are free of blame, 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
