The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 but, We see it as near! 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 except those that pray, 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 who guard their privates 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
