Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In a high Garden. 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
