The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
