Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. Ain. Sad. 1 Mention of the mercy of thy Lord to His bondman Zakariyya. 2 when he called upon his Lord secretly 3 Praying: "O my Lord! infirm indeed are my bones, and the hair of my head doth glisten with grey: but never am I unblest, O my Lord, in my prayer to Thee! 4 now I fear my kinsmen when I am gone. [I have no hope of their continuing my mission] for my wife is barren, so grant me a successor from Yourself, 5 "(One that) will (truly) represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord! one with whom Thou art well-pleased!" 6 “O Zakaria! We give you the glad tidings of a son whose name is Yahya (John) – before him, We have not created anyone of this name.” 7 He said, "Lord, how can I have a son? My wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age". 8 (The angel) answered: "Thus will it be. Your Lord said: 'This is easy for Me; for when I brought you into being you were nothing.' 9 He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights. 10 So Zakariya came out to his people from him chamber: He told them by signs to celebrate Allah's praises in the morning and in the evening. 11 “O Yahya – hold the Book firmly”; and We gave him Prophethood in his infancy. (Prophet Yahya was only 2 years old at that time.) 12 and We also endowed him with tenderness and purity, and he was exceedingly pious 13 And dutiful towards his parents, and he was neither an arrogant nor disobedient (to Allah or to his parents). 14 And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. 15
