He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
