Then seized We Pharaoh's people with years of dearth, and scarcity of fruits, that haply they might remember. 130 Yet when good came their way they said: "It is our due;" but when misfortune befell them they put the omen down to Moses and those who were with him. But surely the omen was with God, yet most of them did not understand. 131 And they said, "No matter what sign you bring us with which to bewitch us, we will not be believers in you." 132 So We sent (plagues) on them: Wholesale death, Locusts, Lice, Frogs, And Blood: Signs openly self-explained: but they were steeped in arrogance,- a people given to sin. 133 And when the punishment descended upon them, they said, "O Moses, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. If you [can] remove the punishment from us, we will surely believe you, and we will send with you the Children of Israel." 134 but whenever We removed the plague from them, giving them time to make good their promise, they would break their word. 135 So We exacted retribution from them: We drowned them in the sea, because they rejected Our Signs and failed to take warning from them. 136 And We made the people who were oppressed, the inheritors of the eastern and western parts of the land in which We placed blessings; and the good promise of your Lord was fulfilled for the Descendants of Israel – the reward of their patience; and We destroyed whatever Firaun and his people built and whatever they had contrived. 137 And We brought the Children of Israel across the sea, and they came unto a people who were given up to idols which they had. They said: O Moses! Make for us a god even as they have gods. He said: Lo! ye are a folk who know not. 138 The way these people follow is bound to lead to destruction; and all their works are vain. 139 He said: Shall I seek for you a god other than Allah when He hath favoured you above (all) creatures? 140 And when We delivered you from Firon's people who subjected you to severe torment, killing your sons and sparing your women, and in this there was a great trial from your Lord. 141
