The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night when it covers 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
