AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 They replied, "We have come to you about the matter which the (unbelievers) have rejected. 63 We truly tell you that we have brought to you the Truth. 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 We communicated to him Our decree that the guilty ones would be destroyed by the morning. 66 And there came the people of the city rejoicing 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not! 69 They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?" 70 He said, 'These are my daughters, if you would be doing.' 71 By thy life, in their intoxication they were wandering bewildered. 72 and the Cry seized them at the sunrise, 73 And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay. 74 Behold! in this are Signs for those who by tokens do understand. 75 And indeed, those cities are [situated] on an established road. 76 Lo! therein is indeed a portent for believers. 77 And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers. 78 We therefore took revenge from them; and indeed both these townships are situated on an open road. 79
