(Pharaoh) said to the Chiefs around him: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed: 34 He wants to expel you from your land through his magic. What is your opinion?" 35 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 36 Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician." 37 So the magicians were gathered together at the appointed time on the fixed day, 38 And the people were told: "Are ye (now) assembled?- 39 The people said, “Perhaps we may follow the magicians if they are victorious.” 40 So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Pharaoh: "Of course - shall we have a (suitable) reward if we win? 41 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 42 Moses said unto them: Throw what ye are going to throw! 43 So they cast down their ropes and staffs saying, "By the honor of the Pharaoh we shall certainly become the winners". 44 Then Moses threw down his staff, and lo, it swallowed up their conjurations. 45 The magicians fell down prostrate, 46 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 47 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said: "You have believed in him before I give you leave. Surely, he indeed is your chief, who has taught you magic! So verily, you shall come to know. Verily, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you all." 49 They said: "No harm! Surely, to our Lord (Allah) we are to return; 50 Verily we long that our Lord shall forgive us our faults because we have been the first of the believers 51
