He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to a rich man, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he fears, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
