And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them". 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said, 'Nay, but we found our fathers so doing.' 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those whom you used to worship?" 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 And all the armies of Satan. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 and no sincere friend. 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
