'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
