Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 Their brother Salih asked them, "Why do you not fear God? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
