In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Suad, I swear by the Quran, full of admonition. 1 In fact, the disbelievers are in false pride and opposition. 2 How many a generation We destroyed before them, and they cried out when it was no longer the time for escape! 3 They were surprised that one of them had come to them as warner; and the unbelievers said: "He is a deceiving sorcerer. 4 Does he claim that all the deities are [but] one God? Verily, a most strange thing is this!" 5 Their leaders departed, saying, "Walk away! Hold fast to your deities. This is clearly a conspiracy. 6 We never heard of this in the former faith; this is nothing but a forgery: 7 "What! has the Message been sent to him - (Of all persons) among us?"... but they are in doubt concerning My (Own) Message! Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment! 8 Do they have the stores of the mercy of your Lord, the mighty and munificent? 9 Or is it that the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? If so, let them ascend up with means (to the heavens)! 10 [They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers]. 11 Before them the people of Noah denied the truth, as did the 'Ad and Pharaoh of the Stakes, 12 And (the tribe of) Thamud, and the folk of Lot, and the dwellers in the wood: these were the factions. 13 There was not one of them but treated their messengers as liars, so My punishment rightly overtook them: 14
