A multitude of those of old 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 But those of the left hand -- how unhappy those of the left hand -- 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 "In fact, we were unfortunate!" 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
