The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And the Book written 2 on fine parchment; 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. 27 "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." 28
