The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 facing one another. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The Companions of the Right 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water poured out 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
