The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And extended shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And raised couches; 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
